Customizing CAPTCHAs

The internet has gotten so good at understanding user's frustrations dealing with CAPTCHA that Google now offers an option to let users personalize their own CAPTCHA. Google gives the user a wide variety of options ranging from which version of CAPTCHA they would like to see to the color options of each popup.

The first option is reCAPTCHA v3, the CAPTCHA that monitors the user's behavior across multiple websites to determine through machine learning if the user is a human. The CAPTCHA never interrupts user experience on the internet, making it like an invisible CAPTCHA. Although with most things on the internet this does have its downsides, with choosing this option users to agree to give Google access to their activity on the web as well as other websites that implement CAPTCHA on their site.

If users are not particularly comfortable with the "invisible" CAPTCHA they can choose to bring back reCAPTCHA v2. This version features a widget that is bypassed by simply clicking the checkbox to verify that the user is not a robot. Compared to v3 users will have to experience the pop-ups every once in a while when surfing the web, but this version will give reassurance that a program is not running in the background.

Unfortunately for the die-hard fans of the older versions of CAPTCHA, version 1 is no longer being used. reCAPTCHA v1 used to feature a unique option that gave the CAPTCHA more flair, users were able to customize the theme of the widgets and had 4 pre-optimized options to choose from: red, white, blackglass,  and clean. Users with knowledge of coding and HTML can also customize their theme and layout of the CAPTCHA image. Google has not yet offered the same customization options with version 2 of CAPTCHA and has not announced any further plans with advancing that version.
