Although technology has become increasingly popular, it can also have its dangers. Beginning with one's posture, sitting a computer for an extended period of time does damage to the spine and posture. Slouching or slumping down while using devices like phones, tablets, or any other device isn't healthy for our posture. Not only does it affect the posture, but one's eyesight as well. Over usage of technology devices can blur one's vision or cause increased sensitivity to light. College students have to look at a computer screen for a long period of time, especially now that schooling is virtual. Students have to do their homework and most times they wait till the last minute, which tends to be at night. Aside from eyesight damage, using a phone or any other device for too long can lead to insomnia. Staying on your phone late at night can have this effect because one is increasing their alertness at a time when they should still be sleeping. This can also affect the amount of REM sleep an individual is getting or at least drastically decrease. On to mental harms, over using technology can lead to anxiety and depression. The more technology upcoming teenagers engage in, the more distant they become from others. Obviously I am majoring in technology, so I have been around many peers that consume themselves in technology. Many of them can be seen as "socially-awkward" but I feel that they just don't have great communication skills due to limited human interaction.
