Ensuring your own cloud security

With the insane amount of data breaches occurring, users can get fearful of their information being accessed and used for harmful purposes. This is a very appropriate and reasonable concern for users to have. Many are left with questions like “How secure is my cloud data?” and “What are some steps I can take to make sure that my cloud information is as secure as possible?”.

There are many protocols in place and actions that are being taken to protect user information and relieve as much stress and worry as possible. Security tips, by Natalie Boyd, details:
“In an attempt to standardize cloud security, the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) released a cybersecurity framework in the spring of 2018 that lists standards for securing the internet that all federal agencies are required to use after an executive order signed by President Trump.

And in May 2018, the European Union passed a law, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), to protect citizens against data breaches by making organizations accountable for them along with privacy violations. Businesses that fail to protect privacy or suffer a data breach will be fined a substantial sum — “up to 4% of annual global turnover or €20 Million (whichever is greater).” “

There are many vulnerabilities of cloud networking and users have a right to be concerned as the responsibility is general taken out of their hands and completely in control of the network providers.

Great news is that there are many security tips that are suggested to be taken to ensure security as much as possible:

- Double check that the provider encrypts your data
- 2 step authentication log-in systems
- Monitor Workspaces
-       Secure APIs
