The benefits video games have on athletes

    Video games in society are not just for individuals in armchairs. Believe it or not, professional athletes benefit from these games. Athletes have said that these games help with their physical and mental skills. Some games include simulators, which allow athletes to simulate real-world activities. The activities are the sports that they play. Athletes increase their skill analysis and predictions from these games. FIFA, NBA 2k, and MLB are all different types of games that professional athletes play. Major League Soccer player Conor Chinn spends one hour a day on FIFA. Chinn stated that "It gets your soccer brain started." Conor said that each player mimics the decision-making and skill of an actual player. He also stated that "You get to experience the players' style of play." This shows how much of an impact these games have on athletes. Conor said that the movements and actions from FIFA are very similar to the players that he faces on the pitch. 

     Another video game that improves athletes' skills is iRacing.com. This is a simulation site for professional Nascar drivers to practice and experience real-life racing behind a screen. This simulation is very beneficial to athletes because Nascar has banned drivers from test-driving on actual tracks. Nascar driver Joey Logano says that the simulator is so realistic that he remembers some of the laps from the screen. And when it comes to race day, he is already prepared for the track. Although these video games are beneficial to athletes, they must play in moderation like every other individual. Too much screen time is never good physically and mentally. However, if more athletes look into video games, they will increase in skill and take their game to the next level.
