The photo above looks like a normal man that some people may even say looks like someone they know. Well what if I told you that this person did not exist? The above photo of the man has actually been AI generated and is, to an extent, not a real person. Now there may be someone out there who looks very similar or even identical so no one can really say that this looks like absolutely no one, but the AI takes tens of thousands of online pictures and combines them all together in an algorithm to randomly generate a fake person. They call it a “generative adversarial network,” or GAN for short. The website was created by a software engineer who works for Uber named Phil Wang. He has created this website to spread awareness on just how good this AI algorithm has become and to help warn people of faked or spoofed images.
Since this website surfaced, other people have created similar, though more humorous, websites based around the same AI such as sites: "This Cat Does Not Exist" or "This Car Does Not Exist" and even "This City Does Not Exist". While all of these sites are bringing awareness to this amazing AI, it is still not perfect and if you do go to the listed sites you may come across some very bizarre or even nightmarish looking creations from this AI. The possibilities are endless though and it can do a pretty good job just going off the picture above. Who knows how much more advanced this AI could become or even who may use it and for what purposes. Hopefully though, it's just used to make non-existent cats or even one day dogs.
