In school, many different factors lead students to academic failure. Some factors can be, poor living conditions, learning difficulties, and an unstable family environment. Although these factors are true, there is one that many individuals don't know of. That factor is violent video games. A recent study was conducted by Ohio State University and the University of Amsterdam. They selected 800 students and asked them what video games they prefer. Each of the students were put into three groups- lower, medium, and high academic ability-based on their standardized test scores. Out of all the groups, the lowest academic level played violent video games the most. The students in this group also had a better understanding of the game than the other two.
From the recent blog, researchers identified that these types of games lead to aggression. Kids playing these types of violent games is not good mentally and for their health. Similarly, this article also states that these games increase student's aggression levels. In addition, they also affect their personality and cause students to exhibit risky behavior. The students in this study choose to play violent video games because they claim that it alleviates their aggression. Many students have socio-economic problems and are not raised in the proper environment. These environments are not healthy and cause these students to become more hostile.
It important that we examine our students in society. The educational system needs to make sure that they are checked upon and guided on the right path for success. Violent video games are proven to not be beneficial and we should encourage kids not to play them.
