The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning: A Step Forward in the Electric Automotive World

With stricter regulations and more car manufacturers attempting to go carbon neutral within the next decade, it's no wonder new electric cars keep popping up. With Ford's earlier rendition of the electric sports crossover, the Mustang Mach e, the company has certainly been busy trying to keep up with automakers such as Tesla which dominate the electric car market. However, something the electric car community has been missing was an electric pick-up truck, but not anymore.

The F-150 Lightning offers many premium features that many would not expect from a pick-up truck in its class. These include Bluecruise: a form of autopilot that allows drivers to be hands-free while on certain highways, allowing the usage of a phone as a key to start the vehicle, and a more premium interior complete with a 15.5 inch tablet including an integrated dial and nice physical switches (arguably better than what Tesla offers). The vehicle is also boasting a 230 mile range on the standard model, and a great 300 mile range for the extended range model. With these ranges in mind, this truck actually has a backup power mode, in which the car may be used as a generator if your home experiences a blackout, and can provide up to three days of full power usage.

Now for an electric car, the specifications look pretty good, but they are even better when compared to a traditional pick-up truck. While there are nice features such as trailer hitch assist and scales in the car to monitor weight distribution, the towing and hauling capability is great. With an estimated hauling capacity of 10,000 pounds and a payload capacity of 2,000 pounds, this truck is no slouch in terms of power. Also because this is an electric vehicle, all of the torque from the dual motors (and from all four tires of course) in the car is instant, meaning you can have the maximum towing power the second you press the accelerator pedal. And the best part is, you can get all of this starting at just under 40,000 dollars.
