NCAA College World Series vs NBA Play offs Media Coverage
For the women's 2021 NCAA College World Series, Florida State University and the University of Oklahoma faced off in the softball final. The final consists of 3 games or 2 depending if there is a sweep. The games would be June 8-10. At the same time, the NBA playoffs began May 22 and will continue until July 22. The NBA playoffs are broadcasted between the networks: TNT, ABC, and ESPN. Each network has specific dates in which each one will broadcast a game. The College World Series was broadcasted on ESPN. The first two games were played at 7:00 pm. Since FSU won the first game 8-4 and Oklahoma won the second game 6-2, a game 3 was played. Game 3 was played at 3:00 pm on June 10th. This was a Thursday. That same night ESPN broadcasted the Milwaukee Bucks vs Brooklyn Nets at 7:30 pm. There was a big controversy over the timing for the College World Series given that the final championship game would be at a time where most viewers would be at work. Whereas, game 3 out of 7 for the Bucks vs Nets would be shown later on in the afternoon when most people are out of work and available. Despite the bad timing, game 3 of FSU vs Oklahoma had over 1.2 million viewers. This had a fifteen percent increase from the 2019 Championship Series. It also set a record for the amount of viewers there were in 2021.
This is a video of FSU player Kalei Harding in game 1. Personally, I am not a softball fan but watching the Championship Series did leave me impressed especially on these plays by Harding.
